Happy Birthday to sharinlilbit! I'm sending you wishes for a year of good health, good fun, and lots of #1 hits for your #1 guy.

News on Shari

I got home late last night and just now found this note from Shari's dad. I'm on my way out the door again, but should be back late this afternoon and will send you an update if I hear anything else.

From Shari's dad:

Shari was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Memphis today, and we are expecting an Orthopedic surgeon to do some work on her knee tomorrow or Friday. It looks like that they will not be "putting her under" for the surgery at this point, which is good news.

Her temperature was 102 and climbing when she called me about 3:30 a.m. and her heart was racing. When she was triaged in the ER, her heart rate was 148, but her temperature had dropped some.

She is currently in room 463 at the hospital, and the phone number in the room is (901) 765-2463.

Gifts for Shari

This is what I posted on E-Muse about gifts for Shari from the list. Feel free to pass the info on to anyone who might be interested but who doesn't check list mail regularly.

Several of you have suggested that we either purchase an Amazon gift certificate or work off Shari's wish list at Amazon since she'll probably be looking for some good reading material to keep her occupied. I'll collect your gifts and however much we get, that's how much we'll spend on a gift certificate or merchandise. I'm thinking merchandise would be preferable since we don't know when she'll be able to get online to do her own shopping.

You can donate online through Paypal. The proper address to use to send me your Paypal payment is selby@starband.net. If you'd prefer, you may send a check or money order to me at P.O. Box 75, Columbia, MO 65205. E-mail me and let me know if you're sending your contribution via snail mail and how much so I can keep track of our total and move quickly to get her gifts on the way.

Also, I'm quite sure that Shari would appreciate some fanfic written by her favorite authors. If you've been looking for motivation to finish that WIP, write a new story or come out of fanfic retirement, I can't think of a better incentive than making Shari happy. I'd be happy to print out the stories and mail them to her.

What she needs most of all is our prayers and good thoughts. I know God hears that still, small voice, but let's make a racket for Shari.

Now what?

I can't believe it was a cow of all things that finally got me over here. I just know this is going to become a habit for me. I'm still not sure what I'm doing, but that's pretty standard for me.

It's been a stressful week. I went to press with my paper yesterday and that went well enough, although they moved our graphics guys into another building so our usual system of organization completely fell apart.

The editor of our sister paper in Columbia has resigned which will probably mean a crapload of work for me for the next few months. Because of the extra work, I had to back out of helping out with a project with Girl Scouts next month, but to be honest, I'm not too sad about that. I love the organization, but I've discovered that I'm just not good at asking people to participate in fundraising events. I wish I was more assertive.

I guess I'll click the update button on this thing and see what happens. Ack!
